Here, if you want to wear (or carry, or drink from, etc) the Gonzo Pirate, I tossed it up on Cafe Press. I may try to remove the background later so the design pops more, but we'll see. Go here, give me a reason to keep doing this shit. :)

I finally finished something I'd been sitting on for months. I had an acquaintance on DeviantArt that is one of the most incredible artists, who had the username minarho1. I saw her crank out about 3 different versions of this sketch before I saw this one and asked if it was ok if I colored it.

She said that she'd like to see what I could do with it, so I started on it. And then I stopped. I repeated this several times. Then finally a month or two ago I actually got started. It took me a while, due to just getting busy or distracted by other things or what have you. But I spent the last few evenings getting all this DONE. In fact, I was up way too late last night and crawled into bed once I was done because I just couldn't leave anything unfinished. But it's done.

While the one in the middle should be recognizable, the ladies, from left to right, are: Hippolyta, Queen of the Amazons; Donna Troy; Diana, aka Wonder Woman, Cassandra Sandsmark, aka Wonder Girl; and Artemis of Bana-Mighdall. Diana, Hippolyta and Artemis have all held the title of Wonder Woman, and Donna and Cassie have been Wonder Girl. So there's the connection.

I may go back and tweak a few things, looking at it after having slept. But for now, it'll do. And if you're wondering, my favorite in this piece is Hippolyta. I love that regal stance. :)

To combat my own emo-ness, I've decided to post things that have made me smile instead of being miserable. :) In this case, myself. Well, versions of me. One of the forums I frequent, Whitechapel, is full of crazy talented people. And they came up with the idea of drawing each other, hence the Draw Each Other thread. And I've participated as well, moreso as a subject than a contributor, though.

I think it's pretty cool to see what some of these folks can do. They're not all modern masters, but it's still cool to see what they can do, and it's flattering as hell to be picked, since there are hundreds of pictures to pick from. There's been eight done of me so far, and here they are, with links to the artists' sites (if available).

Wheee! )

I've been doing some stuff. Like this thing that I told the original artist I would color ages ago.

Time to go make my paycheck now.

It's time to make the donuts in the Pits of Hell, but I'm making a list here of drawing type things I need to either start or finish so I get my ass on the ball.

- Dies Irae logo
- Jeff's chicken
- Um, comics. Second in the portrait series is pretty much done, it just needs lettering and touchups. One random filler comic is 50%.
- Get that fucking dragon claw nailed down.
- Go ahead and finish the Batbitch, since it won't leave me alone until I do. Yes, I have actually come up with a design for a Batbitch costume.
- Thumbnail out some other bad ideas while I'm at work.

Like I said in a comment earlier, if my artwork were a child, I'd have been arrested for neglect. That's not going to happen again soon.

I haven't given up on the comic. I've just got so much stuff running circles in my head it's hard to pin any one thing down at a time long enough to shove it onto paper. But just for shits and giggles, I scanned this before I lost it. It's from a few months ago, while I was still figuring out how to lay out strips. I do this at work so that I can effectively waste both company time and office supplies. Who says I can't multitask?

Click for giantness. I'm particularly proud of the Ark in the margin there.

I'm still pissed about my hair looking like I slept in a bottle of merlot. Although, it is a proper gothy red, which would be cool if that's what I was going for. But it wasn't. It does make me want to pierce my nose, though. Which is kind of fucked up considering how I usually feel about piercing anything but my ears. Which is generally of the "FUCK NO" opinion.

I'm in a weird state of mind lately. *shrug*

Also, even though I've done absolutely nothing that could have possibly injured it, my right knee (the shitty one) started hurting like hell earlier. I was just sitting at work, and these shooting pains started attacking my knee. I mean like, when they happened, it was enough to stop me mid-sentence to gasp. Feels fine now, but that was really strange.

Thanks for reminding me of this.

Cause I finally remembered to color it. )

I'm still working on this week's comic. Hopefully I'll have it done tonight, but I can't really make a promise on that. In the meantime, and as a means of further procrastination for myself, here's something different. Over on Whitechapel, we have a Draw Each Other thread that's pretty popular. We've got a lot of interesting and awesome subjects and artists to see. I haven't had time to contribute yet, but I have submitted myself for interpretation.

With interesting results...big pictures under here )

Taylor Lautner Fan Letter To Universal: Your Wolfman Ripped Off Twilight

Oh. Oh god. I don't even have the words to express the horror that this sort of thing inflicted upon me.

I love, LOVE, the old Universal monster movies. I used to have all of them on VHS back in the day, including the Abbott & Costello ones, just because. My all-time favorite is Frankenstein Meets The Wolf Man, for the crackiness of it. Shitty Bela Lugosi as Frankenstein's monster, Lon Chaney Jr overacting, and even a musical number! You can't get that level of fuckery today in cinema unintentionally!

But this...I hope to every god in existence that the person that wrote this letter is still in high school. Otherwise, I hope they obtain a painful case of mutated hemorrhoids. With barbed spikes coming out of them.

Justin...say it with me.... WEREWOLVES ARE RUINED FOREVER!!!!111!!!111!!!!

Fuck this noise. Katy and I broke out the beer and Boondock Saints. Our brains need therapy.

I'm gonna get to all the comments for the 2010 meme when I get home, cause I don't have time to tell all you guys how awesome you are. Awww.

This was on the only message board I still really frequent, Whitechapel. There's a Draw Each Other thread there, and I've gotten a couple of things done with my pictures, but so far, this one is my favorite:

It's by Yoav Segal, and he's awesome. You can see more of his stuff at

You can see more of the Whitechapel crew's awesomeness (and I mean that) right here in the Draw Each Other thread. I got the first contribution in on the first page, so I feel slightly accomplished there. And I managed to get Paul Sizer to make happy noises, which is awesome, because I love his work.

Shit, I have to go to work. Bye!

I just finished the first comic.

I realize it looks crappy compared to some of my other stuff. I wanted to get this finished and posted by the 7th, but I started work, and that unfortunately takes precedence. Doodling don't pay me.

I set up a Blogger account a while back, so that's going to be the main home for all this nonsense: You're All Fired

And I also have a spare LJ account I haven't touched in years. LJ image hosting is pretty reliable, so that's what I'm using for now. And to promote around LJ as well. It's this username: [ profile] dexwrites

I swear, I've spent more time on getting the sites together (and that's just the bare bones crap - customization will come later) than I did drawing the damn thing.

The art will get better, I swear. I literally drew this in like 20 minutes and then spent maybe a half-hour to 45 minutes in Photoshop cleaning it up and lettering. I wanted to get it out by the 7th, but then I started working, so I at least wanted to get it done over this weekend. I might start coloring them eventually, or just color special ones. I haven't decided yet.

At any rate. There it is. I await the scathing criticism now. *braces self*

...and not the other way around. Ok, so I had this icon a few years ago of a little toony drawing I did of myself. It looked very much like the one I have here on this post. Only thing is, since I drew that picture, I've lost it. And I've lost the icon a few times. And the quality on it was shitty to boot. As you can see.

So I tossed it in Photoshop to see what I could do with it. My hair is huge. I thought it needed more space, so I bumped up the canvas size a bit. Then I pretty much just "traced" the most of it with the pen tool. I did make a few minor changes, like adding pupils into the eyes. Pupil-less eyes just look soulless and blank to me. *shrug* And of course, a redraw requires a recolor, so I did that too. It's kind of hard to make an image that starts small look as good bigger, but I tried anyway.

Today, I taught myself how to ink in Photoshop.

For those interested, here's where I am with the phoenix.

First sketch:

And here's where I am now, wonky tail and all:

I would put it at about halfway done as of now. I still need to fix the tail, and add a few fine details and colors. Which, if you've seen my stuff, you know the colors are where I tend to go berserk. :p
dextra: (Lil Buddha)
I think it's pretty evident that the full moon this time around was mocking me. I screwed up two computers in as many days. I swear, that has NEVER happened to me before. I was about become Amish. Thankfully, one of them is fixed, and the other one should be soon as well, so I'm not too stressed over it. Just feel a little techno-paranoia is all. :p

On the plus side, I actually drew today, for the first time in months. I KNOW. It wasn't anything spectacular, just a girl doing yoga, but still. And I guess I had some pent up art in me because I busted that out in under an hour. I've decided I'm going to take some time to draw some every day, at least an hour or so. I just haven't had the peace/quiet/space/time to actually do anything like that in so long, I almost forgot what it was like.

And it's funny, because I accused Katy of peeking in my brain this morning, because she asked if I'd brought any of my art supplies with me. And of course, I didn't, so off to Micheal's we went. I've got to quit leaving my brain door open. :p

If my mother ever sends me my camera cord, I'll start posting my sketches and stuff again. But, I'm not holding my breath on that.

Oh, and last but not least, I have an interview with a staffing agency tomorrow that I hope will turn into something involving a paycheck. We shall see. *crosses boobs*
dextra: (Wolverine is so terribly pretty!)
This post is mainly for Tony, so that he can see that YES, I AM STILL DRAWING. :) Also, sweetie, if you get an LJ account, you can actually read the other shit I post rather than me telling you about it on the phone. Much easier. ;) And you can see where I talk shit about you behind your back.

KIDDING! Mostly.

Inspired by a comment I made to Drew yesterday.

And this was just a random girl I'd sketched out a month or so ago and I finished up a couple weeks back. Kinda reminds me of Val, in a way.
dextra: (Trogdor)
Not quite that artistic, but it was the best I could manage. These are for Drew's brother-in-law's band. They're playing a club in Louisville Cincinnati this weekend and asked me to make up some flyers, so here they are:

I got the idea for this after watching 300 again for the millionth time. I sketched it out a few days ago and just added to it today. I had planned to do it in color, but I had my pencils right there and things just happened.
